Acadia Gateway Center gets Underway!
The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is constructing a transportation facility/welcome center/bus maintenance facility in Trenton, Maine.
What's New
Project Status July, 2010
- Nickerson & O’Day subcontractor R.F. Jordan has subgraded approximately 40% of the lower parking lot with gravel. They are preparing for the construction of the aluminum plate arch crossing at Crippens brook, which we expect to start at the end of July.
- The building site drainage installation has started at the rear of the building.
- Light pole bases and conduit have been installed at the retaining wall area between the upper parking lot & building site. The gravel base for the retaining wall is also complete.
- At the building site, the footings have been completed for the maintenance / garage area along with the exterior walls. In the administration area the wall footings are nearing completion.
- The exterior walls have started to have waterproofing and insulation applied at the maintenance / garage area.
- The Route 3 work, being performed by Wardwell Construction, has completed the gravel base installation and a 24’ wide strip of pavement has been placed in the area of the entrance / widening along the new centerline.
- The side slopes, ditches and underdrains in the area of the entrance / widening have been completed.
- Fairpoint Communications is nearly complete with their utility relocation onto the new poles; all other utilities have completed their relocation. Most of old utility poles along the relocation area have been removed.
Upcoming Construction Activities:
- Begin installation of electrical & communication duct banks and manholes along the northern edge of the access road.
- Complete the exterior concrete footings and walls for the building. Start the interior pier construction in the administration area.
- Continue with drainage system installation and subgrade preparation. Start installation of retaining wall at the upper parking lot.
- Work on Rt. 3 will start working nights at the ends of the project involving side slope preparation and start removal of old pavement.
- Continue placing gravel base adjacent to the newly placed pavement at the entrance area.
- Construct access road to the box culvert extension area.
- Fairpoint utility relocation to be completed and old poles removed.
